The origins

Four regions, four characters

Ethiopia is the birthplace of arabica coffee, and its growing regions taste remarkably different. These are the four we roast as single origins.

Yirgacheffe

Floral · Citrus · Tea

Washed, light roast. Jasmine, bergamot and lemon in a clean, tea-like cup from the Gedeo Zone. Made for pour-over.

Sidama

Berry · Sweet · Bright

Natural, light-medium roast. Strawberry, blueberry and cocoa: juicy in a V60, sweet and round as espresso.

Limu

Winey · Spiced · Smooth

Washed, medium roast. From Limu (also spelled Limmu) in western Ethiopia: red wine, warm spice and dark chocolate. Our easy-going everyday cup.

Guji Reserve

Blueberry · Peach · Floral

Natural, light roast. Our reserve lot, grown up to 2,300 m: ripe blueberry, peach and florals over dark chocolate. Roasted in limited batches.

Bag of AHUN Buna, house espresso blend

Buna Espresso Blend

House espresso · Medium-dark roast

Buna is the Amharic word for coffee, and this is the one we drink every day. A natural Sidama and a washed Limu, roasted medium-dark for dark chocolate, caramel and ripe berry.

It pulls a forgiving shot, holds its own under milk and is just as good in a moka pot or cafetière.

አሁን

Ahun means now

In Amharic, ahun (አሁን) means now, and that is how we think coffee should be: freshly roasted, brewed with care and enjoyed in the moment. In Ethiopia, buna is something you share, from the coffee ceremony to a quick cup with friends. That is the spirit behind AHUN, from our home in Almere to your kitchen.

FAQ

Good to know

  • For a bright, floral cup, go for Yirgacheffe. For sweet berry fruit, Sidama. For something smooth with chocolate and spice, Limu. Guji Reserve is our most expressive coffee, and Buna is built for espresso and milk drinks. Can't decide? The Ethiopia Origins Tasting Set lets you try four side by side.

  • Each coffee has one roast profile, chosen to suit it: light for Yirgacheffe and Guji Reserve, light-medium for Sidama, medium for Limu and medium-dark for Buna. You'll find the roast level on every product page.

  • Every coffee comes as Whole Bean, or ground for Espresso, Filter or Cafetière. Choose your option when you add it to your basket. Whole beans keep their flavour longest, so grind just before brewing if you can.

  • We roast in small batches and print the roast date on every bag. Whole beans are at their best within roughly the first month after roasting. Keep the bag closed, somewhere cool, dry and dark.

  • All our coffee is 100% arabica from Ethiopia: Yirgacheffe (Gedeo Zone), Sidama, Limu (Jimma Zone) and Guji (Oromia). The beans are Ethiopian landrace varieties. Buna blends our Sidama and Limu.

  • We're based in Almere, the Netherlands, and sell online. Shipping options and rates for your address are shown at checkout. More details on our Shipping & returns page.
