FAQ
Choosing your coffee
Which coffee should I choose?
It depends on how you brew and what you like in a cup:
- New to Ethiopian coffee? Start with Limu: smooth and balanced, with red wine, warm spice and dark chocolate.
- Espresso or milk drinks? Buna Espresso Blend, our medium-dark house espresso with dark chocolate, caramel and ripe berry.
- Light, floral filter coffee? Yirgacheffe, with jasmine, bergamot and lemon.
- Fruity and sweet? Sidama Natural, with strawberry, blueberry and cocoa. It works for both filter and espresso.
- Something special? Guji Natural Reserve, our reserve lot, with blueberry, peach and florals.
Still can't decide? The Ethiopia Origins Tasting Set lets you try four regions side by side.
Should I buy whole bean or ground?
If you have a grinder, choose Whole Bean. Coffee stays fresh much longer as whole beans, and you can fine-tune the grind for your brewer. If not, we grind to suit your method: Espresso (espresso machines and moka pots), Filter (pour-over, filter machines and AeroPress) or Cafetière (French press and cold brew). Our brewing guide has recipes for each.
What's in the tasting set?
Four 100 g pouches: washed Yirgacheffe, Sidama Natural, washed Limu and Guji Natural Reserve. Each comes in its own resealable pouch, and you can choose whole bean or ground. It is a good way to find your favourite before committing to a full bag, and it makes a lovely gift.
Freshness and storage
When was my coffee roasted?
We roast in small batches and print the roast date on every bag, so you always know exactly how fresh your coffee is.
Should I wait before brewing it?
Freshly roasted coffee releases carbon dioxide for a while after roasting, which can make it brew unevenly. As a guide, filter coffee often tastes best from a few days after the roast date, and espresso from about a week. If your coffee arrives within that window, it is perfectly fine to drink; it will simply keep developing over the following days.
How long will my coffee keep?
Whole beans are at their best within roughly the first month or so after roasting and are still very enjoyable for a while after that. Ground coffee fades faster, so once opened, try to use it within a couple of weeks. Keep the pouch sealed, in a cool, dark and dry place, and see our brewing guide for more storage tips.
Orders and shipping
How much does shipping cost, and how long does it take?
Shipping rates and estimated delivery times depend on your destination and are shown at checkout before you pay. More details are on our Shipping & returns page.
Do you deliver the same day?
In Almere, yes. If you live within about 5 km of our roastery, order before 14:00 on a weekday and we deliver by bike that evening (€2.50, free from €50, minimum order €20). The option appears at checkout if your address is in range. See Shipping & returns for details.
Do you ship outside the Netherlands?
Yes, to every country in the European Union. Delivery to other EU countries costs €12.95, and you will see the rate for your address at checkout. We do not currently ship outside the EU.
How do gift cards work?
The AHUN Gift Card is available in €25, €50, €75 and €100. It is delivered by email, so it is ready to forward or print, and it never expires. It can be used on any coffee at ahun.coffee, and any remaining balance stays on the card for next time.
About our coffee
Do you offer decaf?
Not yet. All our coffees are 100% arabica and contain caffeine. If you would like a lighter dose, a smaller brew or a cup diluted with milk is the simplest option. We would love to hear from you if decaf is something you would like us to offer.
Do your coffees contain any allergens?
Our coffees contain one ingredient: roasted 100% arabica coffee beans, with nothing added. However, they may contain traces of nuts, so if you have a nut allergy please take this into account. If you need more detail, contact us before ordering.
What packaging do you use?
Our coffee comes in a resealable pouch, so you can close it tightly between brews and keep your coffee fresh for longer.
